Saturday the 19th of October marks the start of Care Experienced week across Scotland, a week with a purpose to celebrate every child, young person and adult with experience of care and their supporters.

Care Experienced week was first held in 2018, and was initially launched by Who Cares? Scotland, but is now celebrated globally.  Events take place all over Scotland and each year brings exciting new opportunities to listen, learn and celebrate.

It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of Care Experience for young people and their families, professionals and the wider community, and reduce the stigma around what it is to be care experienced.

The theme of this year’s Care Experienced Week is “Belonging and Connection” which expresses perfectly the sense of inclusion we wish to promote within our community here in Orkney.

In light of this, Orkney’s own St Magnus Cathedral will shine in colours aligning with Scotland’s Promise, celebrating the commitment to achieving a lifetime of love to all those with Care Experience.

We would also like to extend an invitation to all young people and adults with experience of care, and their supporters, to a coffee and cake afternoon before the lighting of the cathedral to share in the experience of the celebration.

Coffee and cake will be served in the St Magnus Centre on Friday 25th October 2024 between 4pm & 5pm.
