Saturday 5 April sees the opening of a new exhibition at The Orkney Museum, of recent artworks by Orkney-based artist, Sheena Graham-George.

‘All Kinds of Everything Reminds Me of You’ is a collection spanning mediums and reflecting a celebration of life and creativity, as Sheena explains:

"This latest body of work brings together some of the different aspects of my creative practice.

“I work in a variety of mediums from film, sound, text and constructs yet painting has always been a constant, one that I return to again and again.

“The small series of paintings on wooden panels are a celebration of the small everyday miracles in life, of birdsong, cherry blossom, new life and the joy of being able to paint once again after a period of not being able to.

“There is another form of joy, one that I find in combing the shelves of charity shops for beautiful once loved books to transform into ‘new’ books or as the basis for visual storytelling.

"And of course there is the joy in beach combing; coming across the perfect piece of driftwood that with a little ingenuity and some vintage book sails lets my imagination conjure up a crew with a tale to tell on the high seas.

“My final joy is found in the alchemy that is alternative photography, a process which in my mind magically captures the intricacy and beauty of the natural world allowing me to look more closely and wonder at how amazing life is.”

‘All Kinds of Everything Reminds Me of You’ by Sheena Graham-George runs 5 - 26 April. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am-12.30pm, 1.30pm-5.00pm. Admission is free.
