Shapinsay wheelie bin reminder - alternate weekly waste and refuse collections start 22 March

Date: 15 March 2023

Shapinsay residents are reminded wheelie bin collections start next Wednesday, 22 March.

Households are reminded to have their wheelie bins out by 8am, with bin handles facing the road, and within 2m of the public road.

Anyone who has not received their refuse wheelie bin by 22 March can continue to use black bags for their waste. All remaining recycling wheelie bins will be delivered in coming days and residents should use those for their recycling (or the approved Council containers if you’re using those).

On recycling weeks, folks are reminded to keep their recyclates separated (so on paper and metals collection week, present your paper in one bin and metals in the other. On glass and plastics weeks, present glass in one bin and plastics in the other.)

Residents can use a small stone to weigh down wheelie bin lids on windy days, or they can buy one of two approved bin clips at www.orkney.gov.uk/binclips

The collection on 22 March will be refuse, with glass and plastics recycling collection on 29 March. Check ongoing collections at www.orkney.gov.uk/mybins

The Council thanks Shapinsay residents for all their support and patience while wheelie bins are rolled out to the community.

Upcoming collections are:

  • Wednesday 22 March - Black/grey bins, no recycling.
  • Wednesday 29 March - Please present a bin with glass in one and plastic bottles in the other
