Congratulations to Shapinsay Primary – they’ve made the finals of the Sunday Mail sportscotland Scottish Sport Awards for the School Sport Award category.
The school was nominated for the award by sportscotland following their success earlier this year in achieving their sportscotland Gold School Sports Award.
They’re up against three other schools for the distinction.
The Shapinsay Community Council, Parent Council, and Shapinsay Development Trust are all kindly funding travel and accommodation for the school’s Head Teacher Emma Clements, PE teacher Leanne Bews, and Active Schools coordinator Kirsty Spence to attend the awards ceremony on December 6 in Glasgow.
Kirsty said: "Shapinsay have worked tirelessly this past year to improve their PE and school sport for all.
“The commitment from pupils, staff and volunteers has been invaluable to increasing school and club participation on the island, as well continuing to develop club links on the mainland.
“Gaining the first sportscotland Gold School Sport by a primary school in Orkney was amazing - being selected as a finalist in this national awards ceremony is the cherry on the top.
“Whatever the outcome we are all tremendously proud of what Shapinsay have achieved this past year!”
