Shaping local care and health services – find out more

Date: 3 December 2019

Time: 09:01

An event this week offers the chance to discover how the development of a different approach to providing social care and community health services is progressing in Orkney.

The aim is to work with communities across the county in finding ways to offer services that best meet local needs – and to closely involve local people in this.

The approach is called Community Led Support and on Thursday (5 December) all are welcome at what’s billed as a ‘mini celebration’ which takes place in the Balfour Hospital foyer from 11:00 - 15:30.

“It’s a great opportunity to find out about the considerable progress so far and have a chat with us about our next steps,” said Maureen Swannie, who is leading the project for Orkney Health and Care.

“Many local people have been involved in developing the vision and path for Community Led Support (CLS) in Orkney. They are shaping the future of health and care in our islands – and that’s what we want to celebrate.

“We’ve been gathering ideas from folk across Orkney – their knowledge and understanding of local needs is invaluable as services and ways to offer support are developed that reflect what’s needed in our communities.

“This event is for all of those who have been involved so far in this exciting project - and those who are interested in finding out more.”
