Selbro drop-in sessions resume
Date: 27 April 2023
The Selbro Resource Centre is reopening for Wednesday drop-in sessions from next week.
The jointly funded Council and NHS Orkney facility, based at Scotts Road, Hatston, will be open for the drop-in sessions on a Wednesday from 2pm-4pm, starting on Wednesday 3 May.
The centre is for people who have difficulties managing their daily living activities and could benefit from the use of assistive equipment to help them manage more independently
What’s at the Selbro Resource Centre?
It provides an opportunity for people to look at, discuss and try some of the equipment currently available.
The centre has a variety of displays that are based around equipment available for the:
- Kitchen.
- Living room.
- Bathroom / toilet.
- Bedroom areas.
There is also a room where you can look at a range of equipment designed to help people with a sight or hearing loss to remain independent. Various Telecare devices are installed for anyone who is interested in seeing a demonstration of electronic assistive equipment.
Working in Partnership
Care and Repair staff are available if you want advice on repairing, improving or adapting your home.
The ‘Tech Peer Mentor’ will also be there on occasion and will bring his TEC library so you can look at some of the technology available to keep you well, independent and safe.
Ruth Lea, Occupational Therapy Lead – Adult Services, said: “Now that Selbro is no longer being used as the PPE hub, we are delighted that we can open our doors once again to the public on Wednesday afternoons.
“We will again be working with our partners Care and Repair and in addition, voluntary Action Orkney to provide a one stop shop where people can view and discuss the range of equipment and technology available to help people to stay safe, well and independent at home.
“Please be aware that on occasions we can be very busy and so there may be a wait before we can let you into the area.”
