Scottish Youth Parliament extends nomination deadline to 1 September
Date: 24 July 2023
Orkney Islands Council’s Youth Services team is advising the county’s young folk they now have until 1 September to stand up for what they believe in, by standing for election onto the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP).
Anyone aged between 14 and 25 can nominate themselves to stand, via a quick form on the SYP website.
Cheryl Rafferty is Team Manager of OIC’s Youth Services, part of the wider Community Learning Development & Employability Service (CLDE): “Being an MSYP is great opportunity to pick up amazing skills, meet inspiring young people, and really be part of the change you want to see. I think we can all agree it is a critical time for young people to be making noise about the issues they face.
“So if you know a young person with a fire in their belly to make things better, start talking to them now about standing to become an MSYP and encourage them to visit the SYP website. Our team supports local young people who stand to create their individual campaigns, and with successfully elected MSYPs – so they can also drop an email to CLD@orkney.gov.uk to arrange a time to chat with one of the team.”
