The Scottish Government has notified Orkney Islands Council today, Wednesday 30 June, of its decision to grant the Council’s appeal in respect of a planning application to extend Cursiter Quarry in Firth.
The Planning and Environmental Appeals Division has overturned the OIC Planning Committee’s decision on 19 August 2020 to refuse the application for an extension to the quarry.
The Scottish Government’s decision informed by a comprehensive 38-page report prepared by David Buylla, a Reporter appointed by Scottish Ministers, is to allow the appeal and grant planning permission subject to 70 conditions.
The Council’s interim Chief Executive John Mundell said: “It is helpful that after careful and lengthy deliberations and a site visit by the Scottish Government Reporter, the Government have determined the outcome of the appeal, which now gives the Council clarity on the way forward.
“This will ensure the Council can proceed in line with the approved Cursiter Quarry Business Plan to continue operations for the next 30 years or more, providing for an uninterrupted supply of quality local aggregate to meet demand levels now and into the future.”
