Save the date to learn something new in 2022

Date: 20 December 2021

Looking to learn something new this winter? The Council’s Winter programme of community learning classes starts in January.

Courses on offer include Tai Chi, Yoga, Meditation, Upholstery and Furniture Restoration, and Finding and Identifying Plants in the Spring – and two Drama courses for the very first time, including Drama Games for Additional Support Needs people, delivered by our new Community Learning tutor, Linda Aitcheson.

Classes are face to face, with special rates available for students who meet the concessionary criteria. You can pay in instalments by arrangement through customer services.

Classes can be booked online. Booking online is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

1: Find a course at www.orkney.gov.uk/welearn

2: Register as a ‘casual user’

3: Book and pay

You can find more information and help about booking online at the above link.

Or, book by calling 01856 873535 having your credit/debit card ready to make payment.

Walter Gorman, Community Learning and Development Adult and Family Learning Team Leader said: “Research shows that learning new things and meeting new people can be a huge boost for your mental health – that’s something backed up time and again by our student’s comments, and it’s a brilliant way to start the new year in a positive frame of mind.”

Following customer feedback about the booking process, the Council has introduced staggered booking days for different courses to avoid congestion. Bookings will open on 7 January for ActiveLife courses (free for ActiveLife members) and 10 January for all other courses. Classes will only go ahead as levels of interest and COVID-19 allows.
