Staff at Smiddybrae House continue to go above and beyond to make the time residents spend there special!

During July, seven residents enjoyed a day trip to Sanday – only made possible by two members of staff coming in as volunteers to ensure it could go ahead.

Smiddybrae Duty Manager, Kirstie Moar, said: “All the residents had a wonderful time.  One lady in particular had said prior to the trip that she wished she could paddle in the sea.  When we got to Sanday a lovely local lady told us where to find an accessible beach.  We took our resident, Kathleen, down to the beach. Initially she was worried that the water would be too cold so a carer took off their shoes and socks to test the water to demonstrate.  She then decided she would like to, and she was able to paddle in the water.

“The smile on her face was so big and she said it was ‘invigorating’.  Staff said that it’s the small moments like these that make the job so special.”

Our thanks go to all our care staff who work over and above to help those who need care – we know this ourselves as an employer but, vitally, residents, service users and their family members, on the whole, also speak to this and are incredibly grateful for the care that staff give to loved ones.

We continue to ask people within our communities to consider a career in care – there are many staff who have shared wonderful stories of how impactful and life-changing for the better a career caring for others can be.
