Ronnie is most popular baby boy name in Orkney but there was no clear winner for the girls!
Date: 22 December 2021
An Orkney couple are celebrating becoming first-time parents to a precious peedie boy they called Ronnie.
Little did they know that they would opt for Orkney’s most popular name for a baby boy in the county.
Granted the numbers are fairly small in Orkney – with Ronnie coming out on top with three. However, there was no clear winner for the girls, with two each for Georgia, Orla and Bella.
Mum Emma Flett and Dad Grant Rendall are “loving” parenthood.
Emma said: “Ronnie was born on 18 June 2021 at the Balfour Hospital weighing 7lb 11 ozs. We didn’t have a boy’s name picked at all as we were both certain we were having a girl – so he was nameless for a day! There was no real reason we chose Ronnie, we just both liked the name. Ronnie is our first baby and we’re both loving parenthood. It has its struggles but we’re both over the moon.”
There were 167 births registered in Orkney in 2021 up to 17 December - 72 girls and 95 boys.
The Council’s senior registrar, Teesh Breck, also revealed that there have been 115 marriages registered in Orkney this year – 67 civil marriages and 48 religious marriages. There were two civil partnerships.
