Work on the second area is currently planned to start on Thursday 14 July 2022 with completion on Saturday 16 July 2022. Due to the nature of the work being undertaken there will be periods when Heddle Road will be closed to all traffic, during the road closures a signed diversion route will be in place.

The alternative route for pedestrians will be via Garson Road and the footpath that links Garson Road to Stromness Primary School.
- In addition to the works being carried by OIC there will also be the closure of Ayre Road, between the Ayre Roundabout and the Ayre Mills Roundabout to enable the next section of the new foul sewer to be laid and there are also now temporary traffic lights on Glaitness Road in connection with the laying of a new watermain.
