Roadworks round-up – from Tuesday 9 May

Here’s a round-up of roadworks underway or soon to start in the county from Tuesday 9 May.
Scottish Water are currently working on the A960 in Toab, traffic will be controlled by traffic lights for the duration of the work.
The collapsed culvert on the Harray Road (A986) remains covered by steel plates while replacement options are investigated. Further information will be provided as we can.
Streetlighting and footway resurfacing is underway on Scapa Crescent and expected to continue into early July. Access to properties is being maintained. The work will be carried out using a variety of traffic management measures which will include road closures at times.
Slab repairs are almost complete in central Stromness – the final stretch at Melvin Place, Alfred Street, South End and Ness Road should be finished by the end of today (Friday 5 May).
Resurfacing work has started today on the A965 in Finstown, from the junction with Heddle Road to Smithy Cottage (approximately 80 metres west of the Evie Road), which will be controlled by temporary traffic lights for the duration of the work in this phase.
Slab repairs on Albert Street, Bridge Street and Victoria Street, Kirkwall, are planned to start on Tuesday 9 May, with the work expected to take approximately three weeks to complete. All work will be carried out under road closure conditions, with access to affected properties and deliveries to businesses accommodated where possible. All waste and recycling should be put out as normal for collection.

- Week 1 - Bridge Street and Albert Street (Bridge St to Laing St)
- Week 2 - Albert Street (Laing St to Broad St)
- Week 3 - Victoria Street
Openreach are currently planning to close Heathery Loan, St Ola from 9 May 2023 for approximately four weeks to enable new fibreoptic cables and ducts to be laid in safety.
