Roads update for week starting 25 September

A summing up of road closures and delays due to road works, events or cruise - for week starting Monday 25 September.
Road works summary
A965, Finstown
The additional drainage work and street light repairs in the vicinity of Creation Cuts are now underway with the traffic being controlled by three-way temporary traffic signals which will cause some delays to traffic and bus services travelling through the area.
Residents within the signed traffic management area are advised to present their bins as normal for collection.
A961 Churchill Barriers
Work to replace fence posts and reflectors on the Churchill Barriers has been delayed and is now expected to start during the week commencing Monday 2 October 2023, weather and resourcing dependent. The work will affect all four Barriers and is expected to take a few weeks to complete. Traffic will be controlled under a convoy system which will unfortunately result in delays to traffic and the X1 (Stromness to St Margaret’s Hope) bus service. As far as possible work will be carried out outwith school transport times.
Inganess Road, Kirkwall
Streetlighting and footway resurfacing works on Inganess Road are ongoing. The works are currently at the junction of Berstane Loan and Inganess Road, with traffic being controlled by temporary traffic signals. The work is likely to cause some delays to the No 9 Kirkwall Town bus service.
A966 Evie, near Evie Telephone Exchange
Crews are off site at the moment, however work will recommence when design work is completed - we'll update in due course.
A960 (Deerness Road) from Kirkwall 40mph signs to Heathery Loan
Carriageway edge strengthening works started on 7 September 2023 and are expected to take around three weeks to complete. The work is being carried out under temporary traffic signals with the closure of Quoydandy Branch Road to try and reduce traffic delays on the A960. All traffic should expect some delays, including to the No 3 (Deerness) and No 4 (Airport) bus services.
A960 Airport Emergency Access to Tankerness Hall Road
Carriageway edge strengthening works are expected to start during the week commencing 25 September 2023 on this section of the A960, and take approximately four weeks to complete. The works will be carried out under temporary traffic signals, with some delays for traffic and the No 3 (Deerness) and No 4 (Airport) bus services.
A960, St Andrews
Scottish Water works are still ongoing but will be mainly off A960 and in fields during the next week or so.

- A960 Tankerness Hall Road to Groatsetter Road 18 October 2023 to 25 October 2023. Repair and strengthening works to some edge of carriageway areas.

• A961 Burray Village (carriageway reconstruction) - to be programmed
• A964 bends at Scapa Distillery and Smoogro Road to Orphir Village (carriageway reconstruction) - to be programmed
• A965 B9055 (Brodger Road) to Stenness Village (carriageway reconstruction) - to be programmed
• A966 Gorseness Road (Tingwall end) to Woodwick Road (areas of reconstruction) - to be programmed
Cruise-related road closures:
There are no further planned road closures for visiting cruise ships in 2023.
