Roads update for week starting 18 December 2023

A summing up of road works underway or soon to start in the county - for the week starting Monday 18 December 2023.

A961 Churchill Barriers

Work to replace fence posts on the four Churchill Barriers is currently on hold and planned to recommence in January 2024, taking place outwith school transport times wherever possible.

A966 Gorseness Road (Tingwall end) to Woodwick Road

Work to repair areas of carriageway are underway and are expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. The works will be carried out under temporary traffic signals with some delays to traffic including the No 6 (Tingwall / Birsay) bus service. Crews will be offsite over the festive period but temporary traffic lights will remain in place.

A965, B9055 (Brodgar Road) to Stenness Village

The work to repair the areas of carriageway is currently on hold with works not expected to start until January 2024.

Laing Street, Kirkwall

Laing Street is closed between 07:30 and 17:00 daily until 22 December 2023 to enable building works on the Old Library to be carried out. Residents should present their recycling / waste bins as normal for collection.

A960, St Andrews & Toab

Scottish Water works are still ongoing but will be mainly off A960 and in fields during the next week or so.

Looking Ahead:

A964 bends at Scapa Distillery and Smoogro Road to Orphir Village (carriageway repairs) – currently planned to start during February 2024.

Looking further ahead:

A966 Evie, near Evie Telephone Exchange – Drainage maintenance. To be programmed.
