Roadworks Update

A summing up of road closures and delays for the period 23 December 2024 to 10 January 2025:

Road works closures and delays:

A966, Skiddy Road to Gorseness Road (Tingwal Road), Rendall

Works are paused and the road temporarily reopened, with works planned to resume on Monday 6 January 2025 and expected to take around three weeks to complete. The works will again be carried out under traffic lights with temporary 30mph speed limit also being in place for the duration of the work.

Junction Road, Kirkwall (Albert Hotel)

Junction Road outside the Albert Hotel (between its junctions with the Albert Street car park and Burnmouth Road),  is currently partially reopened (one lane) but will be fully closed again as needed from Monday 6 January 2025, for approximately three months as building works recommence on the Albert Hotel. A signed diversion for motorists and buses will be in place via Ayre Road, Borough Road (past the Police Station) and Great Western Road. Drivers are advised to keep to the diversions as much as possible and avoid using West Castle Street due to bus traffic. Folks wishing to use the Albert Street car park will need to approach via the Kiln Corner roundabout.

Junction Road and Pickaquoy Road roundabout, Kirkwall

There will be temporary three way traffic signals at the Junction Road/ Pickaquoy Road roundabout from Monday 6 January 2025, to enable new drainage connections to the Salvation Army Hall. Works to install a new electricity supply will then follow on which may also require temporary traffic signals, with both elements of the works expected to take around two weeks to complete. Motorists advised to avoid the area if they can and to expect significant delays.

A965 New Finstown Sub-Station, Firth

Works are planned to recommence on the construction of the access to the new Finstown sub-station site on Wednesday 8 January 2025 with the works planned to take around two weeks to complete.

Looking further ahead:
