Road works update for week starting Monday 23 October 2023

A summary of road works underway or soon to start in the county - for week starting Monday 23 October 2023.
A965 east side of Finstown
Works started on Tuesday 17 October 2023 to carry out some drainage works which are currently planned to take two weeks, with traffic being controlled by temporary traffic signals which will cause some minor delays to scheduled bus services.
A961 Churchill Barriers
Work to replace fence posts on the barriers has been delayed and is now expected to start during week commencing Monday 23 October 2023, with the work expected to take a few weeks to complete. Traffic will be controlled under a convoy system which will unfortunately result in delays to traffic and the X1 (Stromness to St Margaret’s Hope) bus service.
A966 Evie, near Evie Telephone Exchange
There is no work being carried out at the moment, however work will recommence when design work is completed. Which will unfortunately cause some delays to the No 6 (Tingwall) bus service.
A960 Airport Emergency Access to Tankerness Hall Road
Works are ongoing and were originally expected to be completed by Friday 20 October 2023, however given the current weather conditions completion is now expected to by 25 October 2023. The works will be carried out under temporary traffic signals which will unfortunately cause some delays to the traffic and the No 3 (Deerness) and No 4 (Airport) bus services.
A960 Tankerness Hall Road to Groatsetter Road
Due to the forecasted weather conditions works are now planned to start during week commencing 23 October 2023 and are expected to take around three weeks to complete. The works will be carried out under temporary traffic signals which will unfortunately cause some delays to the traffic and the No 3 (Deerness) and No 4 (Airport) bus services.
Scottish Water
A960, St Andrews & Toab
Scottish Water works are still ongoing but will be mainly off A960 and in fields during the next week or so.
SSEN
Scorradale Road Petertown Road to western junction with A964
SSEN are planning to carry out some cabling works, which given the width of the road the work will be carried out under road closure conditions. As a result of the works the No 2 (Houton) bus service will not be able to service this part of the route.
Residents should present their waste / recycling bins for collection as normal.
Looking Ahead:
A966 Gorseness Road (Tingwall end) to Woodwick Road (areas of reconstruction), currently planned to start early November 2023 and take approximately four weeks to complete.
Looking further ahead:
- A961 Burray Village (carriageway reconstruction) - to be programmed
- A964 bends at Scapa Distillery and Smoogro Road to Orphir Village (carriageway reconstruction) - to be programmed
- A965 B9055 (Brodger Road) to Stenness Village (carriageway reconstruction) - to be programmed
