Road works update - 28 April
Date: 28 April 2022
- Harray road works on the main A986 are ongoing between Grimeston Road and Refuge Corner - one lane open under temporary traffic lights. Please keep everyone safe by heeding the speed limit and please allow extra time for your journey.
- A965 Finstown – work is planned to be completed on Wednesday 4 May 2022 with all roads reopened and all traffic management removed by the end of the working day.
- Old Finstown Road, Firth – work started yesterday (27 April 2022) on the section of road between Zions Loan and Cursiter Farm with the work being carried out using temporary traffic signals, it is expected that the work in this area will take around one week to complete.
- Cornquoy Road, Holm – all work is planned to be completed and all traffic management removed by the end of the working day on Friday 29 April 2022.
- Benshall Road, Holm – all work is planned to be completed and all traffic management removed by the end of the working day on Friday 29 April 2022.
- Tankerness – there are patching works to be carried out on Churchyard Road, Swarsquoy Road and Tankerness Hall Road, with works currently planned to start tomorrow (Friday 29 April 2022). All work will be carried out under road closure conditions.
- Victoria Street, Kirkwall – work on slab repairs are due to start on Monday 2 May 2022 with all work being carried out under road closure conditions. The road may not reopen until Friday 6 May 2022.
- Westray – the planned surfacing and patching works are due to commence on Monday 9 May 2022 with the majority of the works being carried out under road closure conditions, signed diversion routes will be provided where possible and delays minimised where no diversion route is available. A further update on the work will be provided next week.
- The Meadows – work is currently planned to start on Monday 9 May 2022 with The Meadows being closed to all vehicular traffic between its junctions with Thoms Street and the access to the bus parking at KGS, pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
- A966 near Norseman Village – currently work on a section of the A966 between the Gorseness Road and Norseman village is planned to start on Monday 9 May 2022, with the work being carried out under temporary traffic signals and expected to take around one week to complete.
- Pickaquoy Road – work is currently planned to start laying a new foul sewer from the Scottish Water pumping station outside Glaitness Primary School across to the cycle track adjacent to Ayre Road. This initial phase of the work is due to commence on Monday 2 May 2022 within the grassed area between the Peedie Sea and Pickaquoy Road which will mean that the section of footpath in this area will be closed to all users. From Monday 9 May 2022 a road closure will be in place on Pickaquoy Road between its junction with Pickaquoy Loan and Muddisdale Road, with the road closure in the area expected to be in place for around two weeks.
There will be some bus services affected especially during the Pickaquoy Road closure which have been discussed with Stagecoach. Please contact the company directly on (01856) 870555 for any changes that may affect you.
