Road works update

An update on the roadworks taking place in Orkney over the next week

•    Harray road works on the main A986 are ongoing between Grimeston Road and Refuge Corner - one lane open under temporary traffic lights. Please keep everyone safe by heeding the speed limit and allow extra time.

•    A965 Finstown – work on Phase 2 of the site is ongoing and at this time the diversion route via Old Finstown Road and Zions Loan is still place. The final work required on Phase 1 will hopefully be completed by Monday morning at which time traffic will be able to use the A965 again - but will still be controlled with temporary traffic signals. The Old Finstown Road between Acre Lea Road and the A965 will be closed to traffic until the work in Phase 2 is completed.

•    Bignold Park Road from The Meadows to Flett Drive - work on this site has taken longer than expected due to extra unexpected work having to be carried out. It is hoped that works will be completed very shortly. The signed diversion route via Easdale Loan and Holm Road will remain in place until the road is reopened.

•    Bignold Park Road, Dundas Crescent and Clay Loan -  Work in this area is now planned to start on Monday 18 April 2022, in order to carry out the work the following sections of road will be closed - Bignold Park Road from Holm Road to Dundas Crescent; Dundas Crescent from Bignold Park Road to Buttquoy Crescent; Clay Loan from King Haakon Street to Bignold Park Road. Access to properties will be maintained at the discretion of the staff on site. Signed diversion routes will be in place via Bignold Park Road, The Meadows and Thom Street. A second diversion route will also be in place to cater for the Clay Loan closure where traffic will be diverted via Junction Road, New Scapa Road, Holm Branch Road and Holm Road. This will affect bus routes No 4 (Kirkwall Airport) and No 9 (Kirkwall Town Service)

•    Grainshore Road –Grainshore Road and Seafire Road are expected to reopen today.

•    Sunnybank Road - Phase 1 of the work on Sunnybank Road between the access to the old reservoir and the A965 is expected to be completed today with this section of road being reopened at the weekend.  Phase 2 from the Old Finstown Road to the property of Wesgar is planned to start on Tuesday 18 April with the road again being closed to traffic for up to three days.  During the closure period the No 9 bus service (Kirkwall Town Service) will not operate via Hatston Brae, Sunnybank Road and Glaitness Road – rejoining the route at the Wellington Street / Glaitness Road junction. No 7 bus route Birsay will go direct to Kirkwall Travel Centre via Old Finstown Road

•    The Meadows - works have been delayed until May.
