Road works and related bus service changes from Monday 12 September
Date: 11 September 2022
An update of road works and impacts on public bus services for the week starting Monday 12 September:
The road closure on the A961 at Highland Park was lifted on Friday, however from tomorrow (Monday 12 September) until Friday 23 September the area will be subject to short duration closures (stop/go signs or temporary traffic lights) to complete the final stage of the works. Delays are expected during this period however the X1 bus service will be able to operate as normal again.
Also from tomorrow, part of Glaitness Road (Soulisquoy Loan up to Liberator Drive) will be closed in order for Scottish Water to carry out essential works. The works are expected to last for around two weeks. The school bus and the first Service 9 bus each morning (departs Kirkwall Travel Centre at 7:30am passing Soulisquoy at 07:59) will be permitted access - however the road will be closed to all other users including later runs of the Service 9 bus. Other than the early bus detailed above, the No 9 Town Service bus will not operate along Sunnybank and Glaitness Road, instead traveling via Pickaquoy Road, Junction Road, Wellington Street / High Street and re-joining the route at Glaitness Road / Old Scapa Road.
Also from Monday 12 September, there will be short road closures for manhole repairs in the area of West Tankerness Lane, West Castle Street and Junction Road, with short diversions for buses near the Kirkwall Travel Centre.
