Road Safety Forum says allow extra time on busy summer roads
Date: 20 May 2024
Orkney’s Road Safety Forum is reminding drivers to allow extra time for journeys throughout the summer.
Police Scotland Area Commander for Orkney, Chief Inspector Scott Robertson sits on the Road Safety Forum. He said “We are now entering the season where there are many more people out and about on foot or on wheels enjoying the warmer weather, and often from very early in the day to well after supper time.
“We also have more visitor traffic, some of whom are driving our roads for the first time - but also more tractors and other agricultural machinery on the road, as well as slower moving plant for construction and road work around the county.
“We’d appeal to everyone to build in a bit of a buffer of extra time when planning their outings or commutes, and to continue to show all road users courtesy and patience.”
Orkney’s Road Safety Forum is a multi-agency group, comprising of Orkney Islands Council; Police Scotland; NHS Orkney; Scottish Fire & Rescue Service; Scottish Ambulance Services and other interested parties, working together to improve safety and reduce accidents on the roads in Orkney.
