Road patching and resurfacing works coming up
Date: 16 September 2022
Our roads teams are out and about across the county carrying out the current programme of surfacing and patching work, as detailed below.
There’s a lot of work happening, and we know these cause disruptions to the travelling public, but please bear with us as the works are necessary.
- Work is due to start on Crowness Road, Hatston Ind Est on Tuesday 20 September. There will be temporary traffic signals in place to control traffic, with short duration road closures when required, to enable the works to be completed safely. This is expected to take four days to complete.
- Durkadale Road, Birsay, a four-day schedule of work is planned to start on an area of resurfacing on Wednesday 21 September. All work on this site will be carried out under road closure conditions with a signed diversion route being provided for all affected traffic.
- Currently work is planned to start on Craigiefield Road near its junction with Work Road on Monday 26 September 2020 with the work being carried out under road closure conditions. This is expected to take two days to complete with the Craigiefield Road being closed during this time. A signed diversion route should be in place for the duration of the work on site.
- On Wednesday 28 September 2022 work is due to start at the junction with Holm Road and Easdale Loan, with Easdale Loan being closed to through traffic and temporary traffic lights in place.
- Work is also expected to start on Church Road and the B9065 (Pier Road), Rousay on Wednesday 28 September 2022, with work planned to be completed by the end of the week. There will be some disruption to traffic with the likelihood of road closures at times to enable the works to be carried out safely.
- On Monday 3 October 2022 resurfacing work is planned on Cromwell Road, with the works expected to take a week to complete. Given the nature of the work Cromwell Road will be closed to all traffic, with a signed diversion route in place.
- Work is also expected to commence on Lynn Road on Monday 3 October 2022 which again will be carried out under road closure conditions, which will see Lynn Road closed between its junction with Lynn Crescent and Deerness Road (A960), the closure of MacKenzie Drive from MacKenzie Park to Lynn Road and temporary traffic lights on Deerness Road. Update - this work has been rescheduled for the end of October.
- One-day survey work on the First Barrier (A961) is planned for Thursday 6 October 2022 with traffic being controlled by Stop / Go boards and a convoy vehicle to make the area as safe as possible for the survey team. As a result, it is expected that there will be lengthy delays to traffic using the A961 with this also having a knock-on effect to traffic on the B9052 (Graemeshall Road).
In addition to this, work continues on Glaitness Road on behalf of Scottish Water. It is anticipated that the road will remain closed until the end of the working day on Friday 23 September 2022.
Work is also ongoing on the Holm Road at Highland Park to replace the overhead gantry that was damaged earlier this year. There may be periods of brief roads closures to allow the works to be carried out safely. It is hoped this will be completed by the end of the working day on 23 September 2022.
Roadworks will result in some diversions to public bus services and possible delays. Please contact Stagecoach for further information.
