Road closures and delays coming up - weekly update for 4 September

Date: 1 September 2023

A summing up of road closures and delays underway or soon to start in the county due to road works, events and cruise - for the week starting Monday 4 September 2023.

Road works summary

A965, Finstown

Resurfacing work on the A965 in Finstown (between the junction with Heddle Road and Baikie’s Stores) are ongoing on Phase 3 of the works (from the Finstown Post Office to Grandon Road) with works expected to finish mid-September. As with the previous phases of the works temporary traffic lights are being used again to control traffic past the site, which will inevitably cause delays to traffic in the area. As a result of the current site set up the junction with the A965 and Grandon Road is closed to traffic, with only access to E Fraser Electrical being maintained, all other traffic and property access will be via a diversion route using the A966 and Holland Road.

Residents within the signed traffic management area and Grandon Road should present their bins as normal for collection.

Inganess Road, Kirkwall

Streetlighting and footway resurfacing works on Inganess Road are ongoing. The works are currently at the junction of Berstane Loan and Inganess Road, with traffic being controlled by temporary traffic signals. The work is likely to cause some delays to the No 9 Kirkwall Town bus service.

OIC will be carrying out some drainage investigation works during the course of the week, with the works being carried out under temporary traffic signals which will cause some minor delays to traffic in the area.

Carriageway edge strengthening works are due to start on 7 September 2023 and expected to take around three weeks to complete. The work will be carried out under temporary traffic signals with the closure of Quoydandy Branch Road to try and reduce traffic delays on the A960. The work is likely to cause some delays to the No 3 (Deerness) and No 4 (Airport) bus services.
