Prom Pop-Up appeal returns in 2025!

Now the festivities are over, are you planning a wardrobe clear-out and have some formal wear that you could donate to a worthy cause?
The hugely successful Community Learning, Development and Employability Prom Pop-Up appeal is returning, to help ensure every young person can shine on prom night with an outfit of their dreams.
Donations of dresses, suits, shirts, waistcoats, ties, jumpsuits, jackets, shoes and anything else that may make a young person feel pampered and dapper is being sought.
Last year, 98 young people benefitted from pre-loved formal wear, with almost 200 outfits and accessories kindly donated by members of the public.
Items can be dropped off at the OIC Customer Services reception in Kirkwall and Warehouse Buildings in Stromness during opening hours. Alternatively, to arrange a donation drop-off please email Lianne.Taylor@orkney.gov.uk or Karen.Bevan@orkney.gov.uk
This continues the community desire to relove items, keeping them from landfill whilst also helping to keep costs down.
The Council’s Youth and Family Learning Worker, Lianne Taylor, said: “Every young person should be able to go to their school prom if they wish to do so - but it can also be very expensive, and we are conscious that some families are already facing very tight budgets.
“We are also aware that some young people may have to miss out as a result, and we simply don’t want that to happen. Our appeals have been very successful in previous years, and we are confident that this year will be no different. We ask that all donations are in very good condition so that those who benefit can shine on their special night.
“We are hoping to hold a drop-in event again this year for young people to choose their outfits but should folk want privacy we will arrange this for them.”
More information will follow on the Pop-Up events.
