Plan ahead for the Glasgow LEZ!
Date: 22 May 2023
If you are planning a trip away and driving through Glasgow city centre from 1 June 2023, then you need to be prepared for the new Low Emission Zone (LEZ) that will be in force.
All vehicles entering the zone must meet the emissions standard or you will face a penalty charge. However, there are exemptions for Blue Badge holders.
Blue Badge holders can now access the Scottish LEZ Exemption System to register their vehicles for a LEZ exemption.
More information on the Blue Badge exemption can be found on the Blue Badge Exemption page of the official LEZ website Low Emission Zones Scotland | Transport Scotland
The Vehicle Checker is also available on the official LEZ website which allows members of the public to enter their vehicle registration number to check if their vehicle will comply with LEZ standards.
The Glasgow city centre LEZ is first to be enforced and will be followed by other city centres in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Dundee in 2024.
The LEZ’s are being brought in to try and reduce the harmful level of emissions as this can cause health problems, particularly for those most vulnerable.
It is hoped the zones will promote the use of public transport, cleaner vehicles and encourage more active travel such a walking and cycling.
