Pickaquoy Road surfacing works in March
Date: 19 February 2021
Time: 02:51
Orkney Islands Council is advising it plans to carry out surfacing works on Pickaquoy Road, Kirkwall starting on 9 March 2021.
Works will affect the section of Pickaquoy Road from the west (Glaitness School) side of its junction with Pickaquoy Loan and the east (Tesco) side of the Co-op junction.
In order to reduce disruption to motorists and the local community, the works are planned to be carried out overnight, starting at 22:00 and reopening by 07:00 each morning.
Between the hours of 22:00 and 07:00 there will be limited access into and out of Pickaquoy Loan and diversions will be in place via Great Western Road and Ayre Road. At certain times during the night the junction will be closed completely except for emergency vehicles. Affected residents are therefore advised that if they expect to need their vehicle during the night they should arrange to park it beyond the work area, for example at Great Western Road car park.
Works are expected to take four nights however this will be dependent upon the weather and will be reviewed daily following each night’s work.
The Council thanks motorists and affected businesses and residents in advance for their patience while improvement is made to one of the most heavily used roads in the county.
