Drum roll please!
Papdale’s Wendy Bowen has totalled up her mountainous fundraising effort – gathering a staggering £4,250.02 for a cancer charity.
This mean’s “Wendy’s Wander” up Ben Nevis earned nearly £1 for every foot of the mountain, which stands at 4,413ft high.
Wendy, who launched the fundraiser in memory of a dear friend she lost to pancreatic cancer, said: “I am truly delighted. Thank you to everyone who dontated to my wander up Ben Nevis. The money raised will got to Pancreatic Cancer Action Scotland.
“I thought I would struggle to raise my initial target of £1345 (Ben Nevis is 1345m above sea level); I didn’t know if I could actually climb Ben Nevis and I hadn’t realised the tremendous support that I would have. I have some very, very, very kind and good friends. Thank you all.
“I have to say though... something magical happened on Ben Nevis. I cannot explain it, but I feel all the better for it. Ben Nevis, it’s not the last you will see of me!”
It took Wendy 4hours and 20 minutes to reach the summit last month (October).
She chose Pancreatic Cancer Action as they are dedicated to saving lives by improving early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and the quality of patient survival. They fund vital research, create medical education programmes, produce national awareness campaigns and vital patient information.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom with the summit 1,345 metres above sea level and stands at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Highland region of Lochaber, close to the town of Fort William.
