Orkney seeks Digital Deputy Head Teacher
Date: 11 March 2021
Time: 10:48
Orkney Islands Council is advertising for a ‘Digital Depute Head Teacher’ to help strengthen and develop a rich digital learning landscape for pupils across the north of Scotland.
Fully funded by the Northern Alliance – an education-focussed collaboration between eight local authorities in Scotland’s north - the post matches one in each of the participating Councils: Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Argyll and Bute, Comhairle Eilean Siar [Western Isles], Highland, Moray, Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands.
James Wylie is Orkney Islands Council's Executive Director of Education, Leisure and Housing: “This post is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively across the Northern Alliance Regional Collaborative to enhance and develop the national digital leaning strategy. The project will be managed by the Head Teacher of e-sgoil – the e-learning facility in Comhairle Eilean Siar, the Western Isles - but will develop skills and structures within the education provision in Orkney.
“We are looking for an individual with strong leadership and collaboration skills, and with a proven track record of high quality Learning and Teaching experiences and outcomes, who can lead the enhancement of Orkney’s engagement with online learning and ensure our young people and teachers are deriving the best possible use of the resources available to them.”
E-learning has been established in some of Scotland’s more remote communities for several years now as one way to provide equal learning opportunities in areas where staffing to cover all subject areas was hard to maintain.
These online resources were pooled and extended to the whole Northern Alliance over past few years - and took off in lockdown last year as a national offering, supported by the Scottish Government.
