Orkney’s Parasport Festival is set to take place again in March after a hugely successful launch last year.

The Festival provides a range of opportunities for school-aged young people with a physical, visual or hearing impairment or Down Syndrome to try new and exciting sports and learn more about the opportunities that are available in the local community.

The event will take place on Friday 17 March for eligible children with their carers, parents or school staff, opening at 9:15am and finishing at 3pm.

The Event is supported by Scottish Disability Sport, with a number of sport specific specialists delivering sessions.

Staff from the Council’s Active Schools and Community Sports team and The Pickaquoy Centre will be there to facilitate activities along with volunteers from Inclusive Orkney and local sporting clubs.

Sports included in this year’s festival are:

  • Athletics
  • Rugby
  • Climbing
  • Badminton
  • Swimming
  • Boccia

Chair of the Council’s Education, Leisure and Housing Committee, Gwenda Shearer, said: “Young people and their families had a brilliant time at last year’s festival – we’re delighted that thanks to the support of all our partners and our wonderful volunteers that we can once again bring a huge smile to these young people’s faces and hopefully open up new ways they can enjoy sport and being active.”
