Review of Statement of Gambling Policy.
1. Orkney Islands Area Licensing Board (the Board) is carrying out a review of its Statement of Gambling Policy in terms of the Gambling Act 2005 (the Act) during 2024.
2. The Board must ensure that its Statement of Gambling Policy seeks to promote the three licensing objectives specified in the Act, being:
- preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime;
- ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way; and
- protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
3. The Statement of Gambling Policy requires to set out the principles to be applied by the Board in exercising its functions under the Act. In addition to the licensing objectives and its Statement of Gambling Policy, the Board must have regard to any relevant code of practice or guidance issued by the Gambling Commission.
4. The Board considered a report on the review of their Statement of Gambling Policy at a meeting on 9 May 2024. A copy of the full report, including the Board’s draft revised Policy, is available as a Related Download on this page and paper copies are available on request to the contact details at the end of this document.
5. In Orkney, there are currently:
- Club machine permits: 1.
- Notifications of automatic entitlement for gaming machines on alcohol licensed premises: 9.
- Small society lotteries: 127.
in force within the Board’s area.
6. The Board would like to hear from you with your views on its draft revised Policy.
7. Responses must be received in writing by 28 June 2024 to the email or postal addresses shown at the end of this Notice. All responses must identify the name and address of the responder.
8. A report on the outcome of this consultation on the review of the Board’s Statement of Gambling Policy will be submitted to the Board in October 2024. The revised Policy should take effect from 28 February 2025.
