Orkney is the place to be - from one celebrity visit to another!
Date: 13 August 2021
If the rumours are to be believed Orkney is the place to be if you are a celebrity!
First came the cruise liner Celebrity Silhouette on Wednesday, followed on Thursday by the multi-million-pound super yacht, Triple Seven – reportedly carrying movie great Tom Cruise on board.
Whether a millionaire film star, arriving by cruise ship or any other means, local businesses and shops are happy to welcome everyone back, albeit safely, to our shores.
Wednesday’s visitor was the first to allow double-vaccinated passengers to wander freely, whether on foot or by shuttle bus into town and the OIC’s Head of Marine Services, Transportation and Harbour Master, Jim Buck, said they had received excellent feedback on the port operations in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.
“Upon docking, the passengers were the first to be safely shuttled into town to explore. A huge amount of work has been put in by our team to allow the safe return of cruise to ensure the safety of our local community and passengers, so it was fantastic to allow visitors the chance to enjoy Orkney at their own pace.”
Jo Rzymowska, Vice President and Managing Director, Celebrity Cruises EMEA, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer even more choice to our guests when visiting ports of call on our luxury staycation sailings on Celebrity Silhouette this summer.
“The Orkney Islands provide a wealth of experiences, set against the most stunning scenery, and we are delighted that our guests are now able to explore the islands at their leisure as well as through one of our curated shore excursions. We’ve always been a supporter of local communities and we look forward to continuing that support as part of our resumption of service.”
