Orkney Athletic and Running Club are running out of options in their search for new coaches
Date: 2 March 2023
The Orkney Athletic and Running Club is in need of more volunteer coaches to keep progress on track.
They have tried appealing for help via their own social media, through the local radio and even contacted some former competitors to see if anyone can help - but without success so far.
Elaine Harcus, the Council’s Community Sports Officer, said the club has appealed for further help to share their message to a wider field.
“Club members have pulled out all the stops to try and recruit some new volunteer coaches to ensure their offering to athletes can continue, but, to date, they haven’t managed to get the help they need. They desperately want to be able to continue the fantastic work they do, but it simply won’t be possible if they cannot attract some new volunteers into the club.
“In particular, they are looking for someone to join their throws coaching team and someone to help their long jumpers. They have lots of enthusiastic athletes but need more volunteers to enable them to continue providing training in these events. Anyone signing up would be supported by their coaches and the club will provide all the training required.
“It’s a really great time to get involved with the club, with lots going on and exciting times ahead!”
