‘On-demand’ bus services consultation draws to a close on Sunday 7 August
Date: 3 August 2022
Time: 04:00
A reminder for anyone interested in community transport that the Council’s consultation on flexible, ‘on-demand’ bus services closes on 7 August.
Flexible on demand bus services or ‘demand responsive transport (DRT)’ services typically operate in local areas where there are few or no conventional bus services.
The exact route and stopping points are usually flexible.
Journeys are booked and arranged in advance.
Some on demand services are only for specific groups of people in the community, such as elderly and disabled.
Our Transportation Service is asking people for their views on whether they’d consider using a flexible on demand service in their area and how it may help them to access key services or reduce car use and travel more sustainably. This will help us consider ways to potentially expand existing services so that they are available to the wider community and identify where gaps may exist in specific areas.
So if you have ideas or suggestions for how flexible, on-demand bus services could or should work in Orkney, now’s your chance to let us know!
(To be clear, this survey is not about scheduled timetabled public bus services such as the Stagecoach services – it’s about looking at flexible, on-demand, door-to-door bus services and potentially broadening out the scope of existing services such as Dial a Bus.)
