Key agencies working to support the Orkney community during the coronavirus pandemic met virtually again today.
Orkney Local Emergency Co-ordination Group (OLECG) urges that measures given by the First Minister, to slow the spread of infection, continue to be followed. Stay home - only go out for food, medicines and exercise and keep 2 metres away from others out with your household.
Travel restrictions are still in place with no relaxations in Scotland.
The group wants to reassure people of Orkney that there are robust checks taking place at the ports leading to Orkney to stop non-essential travel to the Isles occurring.
Errol Smith, Maritime Operations Controller - HM Coastguard has a message to people of Scotland: “When all this is over, the coast will still be there in Scotland. For now, please give it a miss. Don’t put pressure on us as emergency responders and don’t put pressure on our NHS. Stay Home, Save Lives!”
Gordon Deans Safety and Resilience Officer, Orkney Islands Council, said; “If you are on the NHS shielding list and require help or support we are encouraging you to call the National Hub phone number 0800 111 4000, where you will be directed to the Orkney Coronavirus Support Hub.”
The support Hub is open for calls 9am to 5pm seven days a week or you can contact them via an online form.
As the lockdown has been extended the group would like to put a reminder our that in Orkney support networks are still operating.
