OIC alerts local food operators and households to growing allergy product recall
Date: 9 December 2024

The Council’s Environmental Health Services Team is reaching out to food business operators and households advising of a growing allergen alert product recall.
The recall alert was raised nationally in September this year for mustard contaminated with peanut and is still ongoing due to the complex supply chain and long shelf life of the products involved. Unfortunately, this means new contaminated products continue to come to light.
Food Standards Scotland has published additional advice to both businesses and consumers, providing information and advice on the allergy recall, which we are now bringing to everyone’s attention.
The business guidance can be found here: https://www.foodstandards.gov.scot/business-and-industry/safety-and-regulation/mustard-ingredients-and-peanut-contamination-business-guidance
The consumer guidance can be found here: https://www.foodstandards.gov.scot/consumers/food-crime/report-a-problem/mustard-products-containing-peanuts-incident
The Council’s Food Law Officer, Carolyn Charles, said: “We would urge businesses and consumers to read the relevant guidance and check against their stock/ingredients. If you find you have recalled product, please follow the advice in the recall notice and let us know here at Environmental Health env.health@orkney.gov.ukor phone 01856 873535 ext 2801.
Food Standards Scotland also has a free food alert notification system which people can sign up to on their website https://www.foodstandards.gov.scot/subscribe
