OIC Accelerates Action this International Women’s Day
Date: 3 March 2025
Time: 12:00

In the leadup to this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March, OIC is highlighting how it works to prevent gender inequalities for employees and the wider community.
The theme of this year’s IWD is #acclerateaction and the Council has a number of policies in place aimed at tackling the gender pay gap - an established root cause of financial coercion and gender based violence.
OIC’s policies include:
-
A Menopause Policy aimed at outlining how managers can support their co-workers during perimenopause and menopause to continue working and developing their earning power.
-
Policies which can help employees manage their caring responsibilities alongside work and career development, including flexible working and hybrid working policies, career breaks, and Mental Health and Wellbeing.
-
‘Good Conversations’ reviews with employees to help support overall wellbeing.
The Council has also joined the Equally Safe at Work (ESAW) scheme, run by Close the Gap - a leading charity working in Scotland on women’s participation in the labour market.
Key aims are that OIC provides a workplace free of gender-based prejudice or violence, where employees have equal access to career development, and opportunity to grow their earning power – preventing vulnerability to financial coercion and other forms of abuse.
In coming months OIC will deliver gender awareness training to managers – helping them recognise gender inequalities in teams and services so improvements can be actioned.
