The Notice of Election for June’s General Election has been published today.

Potential candidates will have until 16:00 Thursday 11 May to submit their nomination papers in order to stand in the election to be Orkney and Shetland’s MP for the UK Parliament.

Nomination papers can be obtained from the Returning Officer for the Orkney and Shetland constituency, at the Election Office, School Place, Kirkwall, Orkney.

Completed nomination papers require a £500 deposit and signatures from the nominee, a proposer and eight seconders.

Voting in the General Election takes place on Thursday 8 June with polling stations open across the country from 07:00 to 22.00.

The votes for the Orkney and Shetland constituency will be counted in Kirkwall with Shetland’s ballot boxes being transported to Orkney after the close of poll. It’s expected that a result for the constituency will be declared around 06.00 on Friday morning (9 June).
