Night bus services - survey reminder
Date: 20 January 2023
Orkney Islands Council’s transport team is reminding the Orkney public to give their feedback before 30 January on the late night bus services currently being trialled in the county.
The online survey is available via www.orkney.gov.uk/bus
New late night buses serving the East Mainland, West Mainland, and Kirkwall and Orphir on Friday and Saturday were introduced on 1 July last year, and late night options were added to the X1 between Stromness-Kirkwall-St Margarets Hope in December.
These services are being run at no extra cost to the Council with funding from the Scottish Government's Smarter Choices, Smarter Places scheme. Currently the services are funded until March 2023.
Laura Cromarty, Service Manager – Transportation, urges people to complete the survey, even if they have not used the late night services yet: "We pursued funding for these trials after people told us they would really like to be able to access social, leisure and community activities in the evenings. The continuation of them will depend on additional funding and demand from the public. We’ll need a good business case to secure funding again, so I'd urge people to help us build that case by giving feedback on the timetable and any other suggestions they may have."
You can view the timetable (and all bus service timetables in Orkney) at www.orkney.gov.uk/bus.

The survey closes Monday 30 January at 12 midday.
