New exhibition - "Mizzle and strife and all things nice"
Date: 28 February 2020
Time: 02:50
Saturday, 7 March, sees the opening of a new exhibition at the Orkney Museum, Tankerness House, Kirkwall. "Mizzle and strife and all things nice" is a collection of new paintings by local artist, Clare Gee. Her work is inspired by the landscape, both in Orkney and elsewhere, as she explains.
“The work in this show, from the last three years, has mostly been made either directly in the landscape or immediately following and inspired by the shapes and colours encountered on those visits. Yesnaby, Evie, South Ronaldsay, Graemsay and Deerness all feature as well as places farther afield, South Uist, Shetland, and Cambridge. They are all places that hold very special meaning and memories for me or are places where relationships and friendships are very special.
"The last three years has been a pretty difficult time for me, including physical and mental ill health and bereavement. But the time spent painting has been hugely productive and positive for me and I really hope the exhibition shows my absolute love for these quiet and intimate places across Orkney and beyond, places that have helped me deal with loss and been home to friendships that have nurtured and helped me through.”
The exhibition runs from the 7 – 28 March. The Orkney Museum is open Monday to Saturday, 10:30-12:30, 13:30-17:00. Admission is free.
