The four candidates for the by-election are: Euan Harcus, Nymeria Drayak, Orla Drever, Gerald Hodgson. Their profiles are available to view on the Scottish Youth Parliament website.

The successful candidate is expected to be announced in the Council Chamber at around 5:40 pm on Friday, and shared shortly afterwards on the Council's 'OIC Updates' Facebook page.

Council Convener Graham Bevan will welcome candidates and invited onlookers to the occasion, with the formal declaration read out by Orkney Islands Council's Deputy Returning Officer Gareth Waterson.

Convener Graham Bevan said: “I’m sure many people will be closely following the results to see who will take up the role of representing the needs, concerns and aspirations of local young people on this important national stage.”
