May Day holiday arrangements

The Council is reminding households and businesses that there will be no waste or recycling collections on the May Day Holiday (Monday 6 May).
In addition, Chinglebraes Waste Transfer Station, Bossack Landfill Site and all the recycling centres will be closed on that date.
Chinglebraes Waste Transfer Station
The site will close at 15:30 on Friday 3 May 2019 and re-open at 08:00am on Tuesday 7 May 2019.
Recycling centres
Cursiter Recycling Centre will be closed on Monday 6 May and will re-open on Tuesday 7 May. The other recycling centres are normally closed on Mondays.
Site users are reminded that from Wednesday 1 May until Monday 30 September, recycling centres operate to summer opening hours. Full details here.
Kerbside recycling collections - domestic and commercial
Area 1 – Kirkwall (Central and North West).
Normally collected on a Monday - will be collected on Thursday 9 May.
Area 6 – Deerness, Tankerness and St Andrews.
Normally collected on a Monday - will be collected on Thursday 9 May.
Refuse collections – domestic and commercial
Area 9 – Stromness (Central Areas).
Normally collected on a Monday - will be collected on Tuesday 7 May.
Additional commercial collections
Businesses that currently receive a weekly or twice weekly collection service in areas 1, 4, 6, 13 and 15.
Due for collection on Monday 7 May - will be collected on Wednesday 8 May.
Trade Cardboard Collections
Kirkwall and East Mainland commercial cardboard collection.
Normally collected on a Monday - will be collected on Wednesday 8 May.
As ever, we would ask residents and businesses to put waste and recycling out for collection by 8am.
