The names of the candidates hoping to be elected as Orkney’s Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament have been announced.
The candidates, pictured above from left to right, are Calum McArthur and Isla Leslie (both Kirkwall Grammar School) and Brooke Mitchell and Jack Norquoy (both Stromness Academy).
The online vote opens at 08:00 on Friday 3 March and closes at midnight on Thursday 16 March. All those aged between 12 and 25 in Orkney are eligible to vote.
The poll will return two MSYP’s to the Parliament.
Support for the successful candidates will be provided by Orkney Islands Council’s Community Learning and Development Services.
The Scottish Youth Parliament represents Scotland’s young people. Their democratically elected members listen to and recognise the issues that are most important to young people, ensuring that their voices are heard by the country’s decision makers. They strive for a stronger, more inclusive Scotland that empower young people by involving them in the decision making process.
There are three national sittings per year with two members elected for each constituency for a term of two years.
The result of the vote will be declared in the Orkney Islands Council chamber at 16:30 on Friday 17 March by Orkney’s Returning Officer Alistair Buchan.
