Date: 29 March 2017
Time: 06:37
Thirty eight candidates have put themselves forward for election in Orkney for the local Council elections in May.
Elections will be held in five out of the six wards in Orkney following the close of nominations.
Nominations closed at 16:00 today and with three Stromness and the South Isles candidates putting themselves forward, an election won’t be needed for this ward. The three candidates will be declared as Councillors on 4 May.
They are Rob Crichton, James Stockan and Magnus Thomson.
The five other wards have more candidates than the number of seats available. A full list of the candidates is available here. Elections will be held on 4 May with polling stations open between 07:00 and 22:00. The count takes place on Friday 5 May with declarations expected before lunchtime.
