Orkney Islands Council is advising that work on the A965 in Finstown will be returning to the A966 Evie junction from Wednesday 12 July, to enable completion of Phase 1 work.

This will mean a return to the three-way traffic lights and lengthier delays for traffic.

Lorna Richardson is Head of the Council’s Neighbourhood Services: “This next part of Phase 1 work was postponed to avoid delays to school transport getting to school in the mornings. With the schools now being on holiday, we’re able to return to Evie junction.

“We do appreciate though that it means longer delays for everyone else again – contractors will be working to get the work completed as swiftly as possible and manually controlling traffic lights when needed to try and avoid any excessive build-up of traffic.

“There will be times though where this can’t be avoided - so we’d just ask folk to be patient and considerate and allow vehicles to filter into queues.

“Our contractors may need to close the road for brief periods – so all things considered allow plenty of extra time for journeys and consider taking an alternate route - and follow the diversion signs when needed.”

It’s expected work at the Evie junction will be finished by 28 July.

Following that, work would then move onto Phase 3 (working uphill/north from the Post Office) with vehicles controlled by traffic lights.

Further updates will be issued in due course.
