Community Learning course bookings open 6 April
Did you know learning something new is good for you? Research shows it boosts positive brain activity and your mental wellbeing.
The Council’s Spring 2023 programme of community learning classes starts in May, with bookings opening on Thursday (6 April).
Brought to you by OIC’s Community Learning and Development team, courses on offer include yoga, relaxation and meditation, upholstery and furniture restoration, appreciating Orkney’s wildflowers and bird life, Orkney culture and heritage, creating art with gesso and mixed media, and numeracy.
On offer for the first time is a course in core singing with Maureen Flaws - a fun class for all vocalists exploring an approach to singing you can merge with your own style whether that be classical, rock, folk, country, jazz, pop or more.
The numeracy course is free and is funded through the Multiply strand of the UK Government’s Social Prosperity Fund and is aimed at helping boost confidence with numbers and achieve the National 4 Numeracy qualification. And will be delivered by local Learning Link staff.
All classes can be booked online. Booking online is as easy as 1, 2, 3 – just go to www.orkney.gov.uk/welearn
Bookings open from 6 April. Classes commence as levels of interest allow.
