Kirkwall flood gates to be deployed as precaution

Tomorrow (Wednesday 21 August) evening's predicted sea levels are getting close to the operational threshold in Kirkwall for the deployment of the flood gates along the waterfront.

As a precaution - and a test before winter - our Roads team are going to deploy the Kirkwall flood defences tomorrow morning (Wednesday) from 8am onwards.

Cars should be removed from the West Waterfront car park. Access to and from Kirkwall Pier and the wider harbour area may also be affected while the gates are being installed/in place.
