Ideas welcome from the isles

People living in Orkney’s North and South Isles are being encouraged to contribute ideas as part of the community conversations initiative.

Public meetings during June in Tankerness, St Margaret's Hope, Dounby, Kirkwall and Stromness will pose a series of questions to local residents, with the aim of generating ideas for how the Council might save money or generate income.

Orkney Islands Council Leader James Stockan said: “Unless we find new approaches, more cuts to services look likely over the years ahead.

“We recognise that the isles are likely to be economically more vulnerable than many other areas of Orkney and will be looking to protect isles communities as much as possible.

“But we still want to hear ideas from people in the North and South Isles – and I would encourage folk to get in touch with us.”

Residents of North and South Isles communities can pass on ideas to their local councillor, their local community council or by email.
