Icing on the cake for the West Mainland Day Centre as they scoop The Great Orkney Bake Off 2025 title

Baking a Victoria Sponge was a piece of cake for some of our supported care service users as they took part in The Great Orkney Bake Off recently.  

Residents from Hamnavoe House, St Rognvald House, Smiddybrae House and West Mainland Day Centre service users gathered together at Smiddybrae for the judging. 

Each unit baked a Victoria Sponge and a guest judge, Kathleen Wood, was given the difficult job of choosing a winner, which went to a last-minute entry from the West Mainland Day Centre. 

A trophy was presented to the winners and each year the units will have a chance to compete for The Great Orkney Bake Off title and take the trophy home with them. 

Hamnavoe House Activities Facilitator, Naomi MacDonald, said: “It's great to integrate with the other homes and a lot of the residents know each other so it's always a good laugh when we get together! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day out and baking brought back fond memories for a lot of our residents.”
