Household Waste Recycling Centres update
Date: 15 June 2020
Time: 04:10
Over the last two weeks Hatston and Garson Household Waste Recycling Centres have collected a large amount of garden waste and are expecting more to come.
Orkney Islands Council wishes to thank visitors for their patience and co-operation with the current way of working – and for adhering to traffic and physical distancing requirements while visiting the sites.
The Council is continuing to accept garden waste this week (commencing 15 June) at Garson and Hatston.
If traffic control systems continue to work well, it is hoped that corrugated cardboard can be accepted as well from next week (commencing 22 June.) Further updates to confirm this will be provided soon.
Previously publicised opening hours continue to be in operation – Tuesday to Saturday 9:00 – 15:45 (Hatston) and 10:00 – 15:45 (Garson), with both sites closed between 12:00 and 13:00.
Planning on how and when it will be possible to phase in recycling services in the Isles is underway and we will provide further updates as soon as possible. Meantime, the Council would like to thank isles residents for their patience and understanding on these matters.
If the addition of corrugated cardboard works well at Hatston and Garson, it is hoped that further waste streams can be gradually brought in over the following weeks, again in ways that ensure the safety of site staff and visitors.
