Hospital stops in new bus timetables

Date: 30 April 2019

Time: 11:18

Summer public bus service timetables for Orkney are due to come into effect from Sunday May 5.

The new timetables include changes that have been made to allow bus users to easily access the new Balfour Hospital, which is due to open this summer.

Once the hospital is open, the X1 service will take passengers right to the main hospital entrance on the Kirkwall - St Margaret's Hope leg of the route and on the return trip from the Hope.

Other services will include a stop at the main public footpath into the hospital from New Scapa Road.

There are some minor changes to bus routes within Kirkwall as a result, particularly to the X1 (Kirkwall - St Margarets Hope), 2 (Houton), 3 (Deerness) and 4 (Airport) services.

The 6, 7, 8 West Mainland services are unable to pass the new hospital directly but connecting services are available regularly at the Kirkwall Travel Centre via the X1, 2, 3 or 4 services.

New timetable booklets will be available from the Kirkwall Travel Centre and online timetables will be available on our Bus Services Page from Saturday 4 May.

'At-stop' timetable information is currently being developed and will be installed at bus stops over the coming months.
